Before Bob and I joined EXIT, we participated in a “foundation building” event in Ontario for Habitat for Humanity. With 200 colleges, Bob and I helped build 7 foundations for 7 Habitat for Humanity houses. The 7 future homeowners and their families as well as many people from the community, were with us throughout the event. What a heart warming experience. It was an event we will always cherish.
Today we continue to support Habitat for Humanity. In addition to our $$$ contribution from selling houses, we were instrumental in creating and organizing the fundraising event for EXIT at the 2007 Atlantic Home Show. During the Home Show, EXIT built a shed for the Restore on Rothesay Avenue, Saint John (an extension of Habitat for Humanity). For a ”loonie or toonie”, children and adults got to nail a board to the shed.
The event raised over $700 and the finished product was delivered to the Restore to be added to the shop inventory. The monies earned from the sale of the shed were also given to Habitat. Many individuals were instrumental in the success of this event – Kenny Hebert (volunteered many days of his time as our carpenter) and of course, our new friends and families that participated in the building of the shed with their loonie/toonie made the event complete.
The Restore shop is always in need of volunteers. If you have any extra time on your hands and would like to help out, look for Dave Delaney at the Restore shop. He is always in need of truck drivers and helpers to pick up new or used materials around Saint John. (Bob has helped out on many occasions.)
